Purpose:
Engage students in 4th grade to use their own creativity to help change the world for others.
Groups ended up donating to Benjamin’s House, the Marshfield Children’s Hospital, and planted 4 apple trees in the community garden. We currently have a middle school group that requested help to be able to fundraise for local organizations.
Allow the 4th grade classroom to spend $300 on a local problem and try to create more awareness and/or solve the problem. Students will decide on the topic that the money will be used on, as well as whether they will work in small groups or focus on one problem as an entire classroom.
Who will be involved: Students in 4th grade
Major benefits:
Teaching students how to work together in a group setting. Each group must collaborate as a team and work together to both create a solution and work together to implement their solution.
Work on a budget to decide how best the grant dollars should be spent and understand that if items are ordered, there may be things to consider, such as tax and shipping costs.
Learn the importance of helping others. Students will gain an understanding of the power they have to influence others and help change the world around them.
